The Prosecutor General’s Office has brought criminal negligence charges against Rosian Vasiloi, former head of the Border Police, in connection with the fatal shooting incident at the Chisinau Airport last June. This was confirmed to IPN by Violina Moraru, a spokesperson for the Office.

The investigation into the incident is currently in procedural limbo after Vasiloi’s lawyers pleaded the unconstitutionality of a certain provision back in December 2023, Moraru said.

The investigation started on 30 June 2023 after two security officers were shot dead and a civilian was wounded by a Tadjik man at the Chisinau Airport. Enraged by not being allowed entry into the country, the man snatched a gun from one of the escorting officers and opened fire.

Promising to tighten security at the Airport, Vasiloi got away with a formal warning then. But in November 2023, another incident happened, where an Azeri man unlawfully left the Airport. The man was later tracked down and deported.

Several days later, Vasiloi tendered his resignation.
