Danger of flooding persists in a number of settlements
Until the seventh flood wave is on Moldova's territory, the risk of floods in the central and southern parts of the country persists, Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu told Info-Prim Neo.
The Prut water level in northern Moldova decreases. In Briceni, it fell by 0.08 meters to 1.8 meters, with the critical level being 8 meters. In Sirauti, the water level is 2.84 meters, down 0.22 meters.
The level of water remains high in Glodeni and Ungheni districts. In the districts of Cantemir and Cahul, it increased insignificantly, by 0.02-0.08 meters. The barrages in the villages Gotesti (Cantemir), Caslita-Prut, Valeni, Branza, Giurgiulesti, and Slobozia-Mare (Cahul) continue to be fortified.
Liliana Puscasu said the floods of 2008 cannot be compared with the present ones as only two flood waves came to Moldova from Ukraine then, while the Danube could take in all the water. Seven consecutive flood waves hit Moldova this year. As to the barrages, Liliana Puscasu said more barrages yielded in 2008 than at present.
