Romania's Ambassador to Chișinău, Daniel Ioniţă, said that Romania's support for Moldova, including financial support, will continue to focus on the interests of the citizens of Moldova, on the implementation of strategic bilateral projects and will be strictly conditioned by the continuation of essential reforms for the democratic development of Moldova and the advancement of the European path. The statement was made during a meeting with Prime Minister Ion Chicu.
"Romania will not remain indifferent to the fate of the Republic of Moldova, because we have a common language, culture and traditions, which certainly constitute a solid foundation for our bilateral relations", said the Romanian diplomat, quoted in a Moldovan government press release.
According to the press release, Ion Chicu highly appreciated the dynamics of bilateral relations, expressing gratitude to the Romanian government for the constant support offered to multiple development projects and for the support offered in the Moldovan European integration process. "Romania has always been with us and always provided valuable support. Moldova continues to rely on the support of the Romanian state and we assure you that the government's reform agenda is geared to change things for the benefit of the citizens", said the prime minister.
Ion Chicu reviewed the government's priorities for the coming period and spoke about the latest developments in the implementation of the public administration reform. He also referred to the activities of the executive in order to increase the implementation of bilateral projects, stressing that any reform must be communicated in order to ensure a correct perception of it and increase society's trust.
Officials exchanged opinions about projects implemented in recent years with the support of Romania, especially in the fields of education, culture and public health, including the renovation and endowment of kindergartens and the donation of about 200 school minibuses. The parties stressed the importance of timely implementation of energy projects, namely the construction of the Iași-Ungheni-Chișinău gas pipeline.
