The Chisinau City Appeals Court overturned the sentence given by the Centru branch of the Chisinau City Court in June 2017, by which David Davitean was imprisoned. The court ordered to retry the case and to release Davitean from arrest. The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru.

Under the decision, the case will be reexamined by the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court. David Davitean was set free.

The Appeals Court’s decision can be challenged within 30 days in the Supreme Court of Justice.

David Davitean was convicted of burglary in 2017 and was given 16 years in jail by the ordinary court. One year later, the Chisinau City Appeals Court quashed the sentence and passed a new judgment by which the young man got 13 years. This February, the Supreme Court of Justice decided that the case should be retried.
