“Days of New Music” starts in Chisinau

More than 200 artists from ten countries will compete in the 24th International Festival “Days of New Music” in Chisinau on June 9-19. The festivals’ founding director and artistic director Ghenadie Ciobanu told a news conference that this year’s festival includes 13 musical performances, four of which are symphonic, chamber music concerts, while one is a performance of ballet, IPN reports.

The festival will be opened at the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” by a symphonic concert of the Estonian orchestra Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta, which includes famous violinist Andres Mustonen, in the evening of June 9.

On June 14, at 4pm, there will be given a chamber music concert of composer Vladimir Beleaev, at the Organ Hall.

On June 17, there will be presented a performance of ballet based on Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”, choreography Daria Batrancea; music by Sofia Gubaiduluina and Luigi Nono. The performance starts at 6pm.

A world premiere will be given at the Center of Culture and Arts “Ginta Latina” on June 18. Spanish composer Carmen Verdu will perform a symphony dedicated to the Festival “Days of New Music”, under the direction of conductor Gheorghe Mustea.

The festival will close with a violin and orchestra concert involving Dmitrii Schostakovici and Ozcan Sonmez at the National Philharmonic on June 19, at 6pm.

Ghenadie Ciobanu said the festival annually promotes the distinct features of the national art combined with the contemporary art.
