Representatives of 23 countries are discussing traffic security-related issues in Chisinau. The event forms part of the agenda of the Board of the European Motor Schools Association, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vladimir Balla, the head of the Union of Car Drivers of Moldova, said the most important task of the Association is to prepare qualified drivers. “About 1.3 million people die yearly in traffic accidents worldwide. More than 15 million people become victims of road accidents. We are obliged to take steps to reduce the consequences of such accidents,” said Vladimir Balla.
Mihai Cibotaru, deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior's Traffic Police Department, said among the most frequent causes of road accidents are the poor qualification of the drivers, the lack of traffic discipline, and the poor road infrastructure.
“A number of countries proved that the efficient implementation of the legislation alongside different campaigns to inform about standard driver behaviors contribute to improved road safety,” Cibotaru said.
A number of 235 persons have been killed in over 2,000 road accidents in Moldova so far this year.
