An automatic information system will be created to handle and store forensic and other expert evidence used in court, the Government decided today.
Justice Minister said that at present forensic procedures mostly rely on paper-based processes, which creates vulnerabilities related to personal data protection and to integrity of such evidence. Automation and digitization, on the other hand, is expected to improve cooperation among investigators, prosecutors and courts.
“Automating forensic processes will ensure the quality and accuracy of such evidence, which will increase transparency and the confidence of citizens in the administration of justice, while also reducing logistic costs, which amount to about 17.6 million lei a year. To compare, the costs of operating this system will be about 299,000 lei annually, for maintenance and use of electronic signatures”, said Minister Litvinenco.
The concept for the database has been developed with the support of the UNDP Moldova and the Swedish government.
