Discussions on overcoming of challenges by dialogue held in Comrat

Representatives of the academic community and civil society and specialists from other fields came together in Comrat to discuss issues related to education and ethics and the overcoming of current challenges by dialogue within the international conference “Dialogue of civilizations: ethics, education, freedom and responsibility in a changing world”. The event was organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the State University of Comrat.

Doctor habilitate Victor Moraru, who is the coordinator of the Social and Economic Sciences Section of the Academy of Sciences, has told IPN that the discussions focused on the freedom of expression, the freedom of the media and the role of the mass media in presenting the realities and existing conflicts. “The mass media play either the role of conflict prevention or the role of conflict stimulation, which is a negative role that should also be taken into account,” stated the professor.

The conference participants also discussed the problems faced in the education sector. “We face challenges caused by the realities. They are related to the conceptualization of education and the adjustment of the education system to our realities. We also spoke about appropriate teaching methods and formulas. It’s not right to believe that such conferences can solve the problems once and for all, but the community is informed about the existing problems and this is important,” stated Victor Moraru.

The dean of the faculty of Economy of the State University of Comrat Constantin Tausanji has told IPN that the conference discussed the necessity of transforming the economy into a multilateral one, whose equation would include from the beginning not only elements that ensure profit, but also elements concerning welfare, education, morals and ethics. Regardless of religion, all the peoples must adopt the dialogue tactic so as to reach a compromise and keep peace. The participants in the conference agreed that the academic community will support the researchers who plead for solving problems by dialogue. “25 years ago, we, the Gagauz people and the Moldovans, resolved a conflict by dialogue and are proud of this,” stated Constantin Tausanji, adding that the conference participants underlined that religion should become scientific, while science – religious.

One of the organizes of the conference Feridun Tüfecki, doctor at the State University of Comrat and director of the company “World dialogue”, said the conference centered upon such issues as education, ethics, freedom and responsibility and the limits of ethics and responsibility. It was noted that the media must keep its freedom, but must respect the culture and traditions of the people and must be responsible.

“The conference’s goal was to highlight the importance of education and the existence of dialogue between civilizations. Taking into account the regional situation and the conflict in Ukraine, radical appeals can appear in the future. To prevent such developments, the people must make use of dialogue so as to settle all the conflicts by it,” stated Feridun Tüfekci.

The conference involved persons from six states, namely Germany, Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova.

The previous edition of the international conference “Dialogue of civilizations” was held in Chisinau two years ago. Earlier similar events were staged in other countries too.
