Distribution of Romanian humanitarian aid discussed by expert commission

The residents of three districts that were to get humanitarian assistance from the aid provided by the Government of Romania haven’t yet received it. These districts are Drochia, Orhei and Ceadar-Lunga. The issue was discussed in the June 7 meeting of the interdepartmental commission for humanitarian aid that is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Social Matters Gheorghe Brega, IPN reports.

According to Gheorghe Brega, the situation is the most difficult in Drochia district, where the humanitarian aid was received by the local administration, but hasn’t been yet distributed. The whole volume of sugar and the parcels intended for Orhei and Ceadar-Lunga will be delivered simultaneously so as to save time.

The official also said that a working group that will consist of representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Agency for Material Reserves, the Chisinau City Hall and Termoelectrica SA will be constituted to put to good use the donated crude oil. This will be used within a social project to cover the heating costs in winter for socially deprived families.

According to the commission’s adviser on social problems Aliona Chisari, about 35 tonnes of sugar and approximately 300 parcels are yet to be distributed. They suggest offering by 5 kg of sugar to deportees older than 70 and to participants in World War II and their widows or widowers. Food parcels should also be given to families with seven and more children. In the meeting, it was also decided to offer humanitarian aid to 51 writers.

The Government of Romania offered Moldova 1,170 tonnes of sugar and 20,000 food parcels in humanitarian aid. The over 16,000 tonnes of crude oil will be delivered to Moldova by train by July.
