Division A team reaches quarter finals of Moldovan Cup
Veris Draganesti are the only Division A side to qualify for the quarter finals of the Moldovan Cup at football. On Wednesday, October 31, the leaders of the lower division produced a shock as they eliminated Olimpia Balti on the latter’s pitch. After regular time ended in a 0-0, the two sides failed to break the deadlock in extra time and the winner was decided on penalties, where Veris showed more composure and won 4-3.
The fixture between Iskra-Stal Rabnita and FC Speranta Crihana Veche was decided on penalties as well. The two sides produced 120 minutes of spectacular football that ended at 3-3. The hosts were more clinical from the penalty spot and won 4-2.
Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol struggled against Rapid Ghidighici and won thanks to a goal from Artiom Haceaturov in the first half of extra time.
Cup holders Milsami Orhei didn’t have an easy time either. They traveled to Dinamo Auto Tiraspol and had to come from behind, winning 1-3 in the end.
The other results are Nistru Otaci – FC Costuleni 1-0, Zimbru Chisinau – FC Cahul-2005 3-0, FC Victoria Bardar – FC Tiraspol 0-4, Locomotiva Balţi – Dacia Chisinau 1-5.
As a result, the quarter finals will pit Milsami against Iskra-Stal, Dacia against Veris, Tiraspol against Zimbru and Nistru against Sheriff. The matches are scheduled for April 2013.
