Doctors donate blood

The public health facilities in Moldova are taking part in a voluntary blood donation campaign that was launched today by the Ministry of Health and the National Blood Transfusion Center. The medical personnel will donate blood throughout March, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Balti Clinical Hospital is one of the institutions that donate blood as from Wednesday.  “I donate blood regularly. In the section where I work – the Nephrology and Hemodialysis Unit of the Balti Clinical Hospital – there is a pressing need for blood components. Usually, the patients who are subject to treatment through hemodialysis suffer from serious anemia that needs blood transfusion,” stated nephrologist Anna Durnea.

To supply the medical institutions with the necessary quantities of blood components, 70,000 donations need to be made during a year. The necessary stores can be secured only with the support of voluntary and regular donors.

A person can donate 450 milliliters of blood for four-five times a year, at an interval of minimum two months between donations. The blood is taken from healthy persons aged between 18 and 60 and the procedure last for about 10 minutes.
