The Law against Domestic Violence is not known by all the actors in the filed and is applied randomly, Causeni District Prosecutor Ion Oboroceanu, formerly a human rights activist, has told Info-Prim Neo. According to Ion Oboroceanu, among the most remarkable instruments introduced by the Law, adopted in September 2008, was the protection order for the victims of violence, which is basically a court order requiring the abuser to stay away from the victim. “The first protection order was obtained on 25 September 2009 with the efforts of the Causeni Legal Center (which he chaired at the time). Our intention was to expand this good practice from the nongovernmental sector to the public sector”, said Ion Oboroceanu. With the first protection order obtained, the Center created a network of legal assistants to export the practice to other districts of the country. “Regretfully these good practices aimed at protecting victims are not always adopted by the public sector, in particular the police, the prosecution service, the social assistants, who don't have a function to develop plans and strategies but rather to provide actual and effective protection to victims. “This Law is in fact really great and ground-breaking, but let's not forget that besides good laws we also need good professionals who truly work to protect victims and penalize abusers”, said Ion Oboroceanu. According to him, in cases of domestic violence it is necessary not only to obtain protection orders, but also to take steps to rehabilitate both the victim and the abuser. In Causeni district there were issued 31 protection orders for 31 women victims and 37 children. At national level, there were issued over 200 protection orders since 2009. On November 25 it is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
