A driver who hit a pedestrian by his car in Floresti town and didn’t stop to help was given a five-year suspended sentence by the Floresti branch of the Court of Soroca, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the accident happened on January 17 this year. Traveling through the town, the culprit didn’t adjust the speed to the street conditions and hit a pedestrian on an icy road section covered. The pedestrian died in the hit-and-run accident.

The prosecutors challenged the verdict of the first court as too mild, demanding that the offender should be given a jail term.
