The local manager of the Moldovan Union of Driving Schools in Cimișlia was caught red-handed today as he was taking a 1,800 euros bribe to allegedly help a married couple get driver’s licenses.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the suspect told the couple he knew the right people in the Hâncești Department of Motor Vehicles and could arrange the successful passage of exams for both spouses. A criminal case on influence peddling charges has been initiated.
The man was arrested for 72 hours. He faces up to six years in prison or a fine of up to 500,000 lei ($28,000). The man’s situation is aggravated by the fact that he has been investigated in another influence peddling case opened in late April.
