Drugs worth about 3m lei found in Cahul

The police discovered 14 kg of marijuana to the value of about 3 million lei in Cahul. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the suspects, two men aged 36 and 37, created a scheme to accumulate drugs in northern Moldova. A part of these were sold over the Internet, while the other part was traded in EU member states, IPN reports.

On February 15 this year, 6 kg of marijuana was seized while the men were transporting the drugs from Cahul to Vulcănești for being sold. The baggage in which the drugs were hidden was splashed with gasoline so that these could not be detected by sniffer dogs.

As a result of searches at the homes of the suspects, the police found another 8 kg of marijuana and also US$ 1,300 and €1,800 that were allegedly ill-gotten gains.

The men were remanded in custody for 30 days.
