Drugs worth over 1m lei discovered in northern Moldova

About 50 kilograms of marijuana and 300 grams of hashish were discovered at the places of a number of men living in northern Moldova. These are suspected of forming part of a criminal group trading in drugs. On the black market, these drugs cost over 1 million lei, IPN reports.

In a news conference on June 10, prosecution officer Alexandru Bejenaru said the drugs were found as a result of searches carried out at the homes of three suspects from Balti, Sangerei and Soroca on June 9. The drugs were to be sold on the territory of Balti municipality and in the neighboring districts. A part of them was to be smuggled to Russia.

The police established that the group consisted of five persons aged between 35 and 46. Three suspects, two of whom were earlier tried for similar offenses, were placed under arrest for 72 hours. The other two are investigated on the outside, but were banned from leaving the country.
