The young man who bit a policeman’s ear last summer after being caught drunk behind the wheel was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, it happened in early June. The young man was in a state of acute alcohol intoxication and was driving on a public road in Speia village of Anenii Noi district, together with a friend. When he was pulled over, the driver behaved aggressively towards employees of the Anenii Noi Police Inspectorate. He insulted, shoved them and threatened them with violence, refusing to present the driving documents. He later broke into the police car and destroyed the radio terminal. When one of the officers tried to restrain him, the man bit his ear. Examinations showed that serious bodily harm was inflicted on the policeman.
The 24-year-old man was convicted of driving while intoxicated, without holding a driver’s license, and of using violence against a person holding a responsible post. He was also found guilty of intentionally causing serious harm to health and is due to serve his sentence in a semi-closed penitentiary.
The other man was sentenced by the court to one and a half years in prison. He was put on the wanted list.
