14 couples of singers compete tonight for the award “Duet of the Year 2008”. The contest is organized by the cultural center Elat and will be held in the Opera Theater in Chisinau at 6 p.m., Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the manager of the center, Alina Pereteatcu, 12 of those 14 duets come from Moldova, and by one from Nigeria and Belarus. The Moldovan singers have bigger chances to pass the pre-selection since they performed live, while the foreign candidates sent video recordings. The artist of the people Margareta Ivanus, a member of the jury, says the contest has no precedent in Moldova, neither in the CIS space. “It's an opening for young people, offering them the opportunity to perform on the biggest stages of the country, to work with the best musicians, to be appreciated as the best Moldovan and foreign artists,” the singer said. “The last year experience was good and the guests got convinced there are many talented people in Moldova,” Alexandru Tihonovici, a jury member, said. The winning duet will get 50,000 lei. The winners of the second and third places will get 30,000 and 25,000 lei.
