'Earthquake' shook Chisinau last night
The Commission for Emergencies of Chisinau's Centru district simulated an earthquake measuring 6-7 degrees on the Richter scale in Chisinau last night. The exercises were aimed at checking municipal services' abilities to deal with emergencies.
The exercises started with a meeting of the Commission for Emergencies at the Centru district head's office, where every member reported on the steps that were to be taken.
“Now we have to put into practice what we have learned until present,” said the head of Centru district Vladimir Sarban.
Sergiu Barbu, spokesman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that exercises will take place in different places in Chisinau during two days. A number of special machines with sliding stairs evacuated the dwellers of “Romanita” dormitory located on Testemitanu St. There were set up mobile medical units to give first aid and a temporary kitchen for the victims.
During the night, there will be carried our tactical drills, activities to extinguish fires, rescue people and provide first aid at the chidlren's hospital “Valentin Ignatenco”. Outbreaks of A (H1N1) flu, avian influenza and aphthous flu will be simulated at the mayor's office of Codru town.
Exercises were also held at the theoretical high school “Constantin Sibirski”, kindergarten No. 226, a shopping mall, the Railway Terminal and a hotel.
