Eight hurt in traffic accident in Chisinau

Eight persons were injured in a road accident that occurred at the intersection of the Chisinau streets Vasile Alecsandri and Grigore Ureche at about 2pm on May 16.

Press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Natalia Stati has told IPN that the accident involved three units of transport – a passenger minibus running on the Chisinau – Cruglic (Criuleni) route and two cars. The minibus passengers and driver were the worst hit.

The police opened an investigation to determine who is to blame for the accident. If the injuries sustained by those hurt are classed as minor, the driver to blame for the accident will be punished with six penalty points and a fine of 1,600 lei. If the injuries are more severe, the penalty will be harsher.

Diana Blanaru, spokeswoman for the National Emergency Pre-Hospital Medical Assistance Center, said 11 persons needed medical care. Six persons suffered hand and leg injuries, while three persons head injuries. A woman and her child aged eight months were taken to the Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenko” with soft tissue injuries. Tatiana Stoichev, of the Hospital’s press service, said the woman and the child received medical care and were allowed to go home.
