Electoral education materials adjusted for different groups of voters in connection with the upcoming parliamentary elections were presented on September 26. A large part of these were already distributed to groups of persons with psycho-social disabilities and visual impairments, IPN reports, quoting the Central Election Commission.
For the first time in Moldova, there was designed and printed the Voter’s Guide, the “Easy to Read and to Understand” version, in Romanian, Russian and English. The publication is designed to inform the persons with psycho-social disabilities. There were also launched, in Braille, the brochures “Democracy Matters – Take Part!” and “Democracy is Learned” together with a CDs.
Victor Koroli, executive director of the NGO “Infonet”, which worked together with “Motivație” Association and other players on the materials, said nice things happen when benevolent people think about nice things.
“The Central Election Commission will continue to make effort to ensure that the persons with disabilities can fully exercise their political rights and have the opportunity to benefit from these rights in the same way as the others citizens of the Republic of Moldova. It think it is our duty, of society in general, to cooperate so that the 5% of the country’s population, which is over 180,000 people with disabilities, have free access to information and exercise their political rights unimpededly,” stated the Commission’ s president Alina Russu.
Also today, there were presented informative materials about elections in the Gagauz language. This is a novelty both for the Central Election Commission and for the Election Commission of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
The event was organized by the Central Election Commission and UNDP Moldova.
