Electricity meters will be checked
The Ministry of Economy started the checking of electricity meters after receiving over 1,000 complaints from consumers, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Ministry.
The National Institute of Standardization and Metrology will check 1% of all electricity meters. The procedure will involve experts of the Institute, of associations protecting consumers’ rights and of companies.
The Deputy Minister of Economy, Octavian Calmac, declared on Monday, August 8, at the meeting of the workgroup created by the Ministry to investigate the situation, that the initial results confirm some models of electricity meters show higher energy consumption than the actual one.
“If the National Institute of Standardization and Metrology finds that some models of electricity meters are malfunctioning, they will be changed for free by the electrical utilities”, said Octavian Calmac.
According to data presented by the electricity providers, 800,000 domestic energy meters of various models have been installed in Moldova between 2007 and 2011.
