A short film will be made in Moldova and presented at all the film festivals within a project supported by the Embassy of France and the Embassy of Germany in Chisinau and by the Franco-German Cultural Fund to which Moldova can apply starting with this year, France’s Ambassador Pascal Vagogne said in a news conference, quoted by IPN.

The diplomat stated that when he came to Moldova and met with Minister of Culture Monica Babuc, he found out from her that attracting projects for reanimating the country’s cinematography is a priority of the Ministry. Afterward he visited Moldova Film Studio and was impressed by what he saw there as this studio reflects the cinematographic history of Moldova. The ambassador decided to seek help from the Franco-German Cultural Fund so as to revitalize Moldova’s filmmaking sector.

Film director Mihai Tarna, who is a teacher at the International Film School of Paris, is one of those who will put into practice the project launched by the two embassies. Mihai Tarna said the film will be made with the assistance of students of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts of Chisinau, who will be able to take part in a contest of scripts.

On May 16, the producers of this short film go to the Academy to tell the students about the theme of the future film and to ask them to write scripts within a month. The filming will start in August and will end in October, when the film is to be presented to the public and at a number of festivals. Mihai Tarna said the project is aimed at promoting Moldova in Europe and in the world by films of a high quality.

The Franco-German Cultural Fund provided €12,000, while the Embassies of Germany and France – another €10,000 for this project. Now the producers are negotiating with the Ministry of Culture of Moldova and other potential partners.
