Employee of State Labor Inspectorate arrested for passive corruption

An employee of the State Labor Inspectorate was arrested on suspicion of passive corruption following a denouncing statement made by the manager of a company. This complained that the employee carried out a surprise inspection at the company and suggested that he should pay €200 for not being fined for the identified deviations, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, a criminal case was started over passive corruption and the inspector was arrested in the afternoon of July 24. This faces three to seven years in jail and a fine of 200,000 to 300,000 lei and ban on holding particular public posts or performing a particular activity for a period of five to ten years.

Since the start of this year, anticorruption officers and prosecutors identified 477 corruption offenses, 75 of which were cases of passive corruption.
