Encyclopedic almanac launched in Chisinau

The book “Encyclopedic Almanac. Transition Period 1989-2009. People and Facts” was presented at the Public Library “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” in Chisinau on Thursday evening. Written by professor-engineer Ioan Odainic, the book includes about 100 studies carried out in cooperation with experts in the field, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The almanac contains a lot of science for those who want to know. One can find here everything they want to. Essential things about all the areas of activity are described concisely in the book. After reading it one gets a general idea about what happened and is taking place now,” said the author's colleague Vasile Ambros. Ioan Odainic said he started work on the book in 2001 and finished it in 2009. It was published at the Pontos publishing house in 1,000 copies. According to him, he planned to issue 2,000 copies so that the almanac could be distributed to public libraries and schools free of charge, but he did not manage to owing to financial difficulties. “I could not find sponsors and spent my personal savings on these 1,000 copies,” he said. “The almanac is a chronography of the major events and an analytical radiography based on documents, figures, schemes, tables and indicators. All the areas are characterized succinctly on the basis of numerous studies and arguments,” academician Mihai Cimpoi says in the preface to the book. The author said he intends to write the second volume of the almanac that will focus on a number of personalities.
