The joint stock company Energocom bought a total of 2.132 million MWh of power from the domestic market and from imports in the first two quarters of this year. Most of this power, 1.470 million MWh or 68.5%, was electricity produced by the Moldovan Thermoelectric Power Plant located n the Transnistrian region. The electricity delivered by the Chisinau and Balti thermal power plants totaled 409,000 MWh, while the imported electricity was about 194,000 MWh. The procurement data were made public by Energocom, IPN reports.
“In terms of imports, JSC Energocom made purchases from Romania and Ukraine, from companies that manage hydroelectric and nuclear power plants. Most of the amount of imported energy, however, was bought from the Romanian stock exchange OPCOM, to cover consumption peaks. For example, the increasing consumption during hot periods, when most air conditioners worked continuously, is reflected in a higher share of electricity purchased from OPCOM,” the joint stock company said, specifying that there is also an increase in the amount of energy purchased from Ukraine compared to last year.
According to Energocom, the share of renewable energy parks and power plants in the first two quarters of the year was 3.3%, or about 71,000 MWh. This amount refers only to producers with eligible status who sell energy to JSC Energocom. There are also producers on the market., which concluded contracts with other suppliers. For comparison, the total amount purchased from renewable energy producers in 2023 was about 81,000 MWh.
Last year, JSC Energocom extended, in October 2023, the power purchase agreement with the Moldovan Thermoelectric Power Plant in the Transnistrian Region (MGRES) until the end of 2024, the cost of energy being 66 USD/MWh.
