Escapee returned to prison
Police have caught the inmate who escaped on July 23 from Penitentiary No.9, colloquially known as Pruncul Prison. The 34-year-old man, previously sentenced to 10 years in jail for theft and drug dealing, risks to have his sentence extended by 2 years, reports Info-Prim Neo.
According to a communiqué from the Correctional Institutions Department, the escapee was caught on Wednesday, July 25. The convict was put into the custody of criminal investigation authorities.
The inmate’s absence from the prison was noted on July 23, at around 8am during a morning roll call. The convict used to work outside the penitentiary, having the right to relocate without an escort.
The Law allows inmates who serve their jail sentences in community or re-socializing regime, to leave the premises without an escort or guard, if they’ve served at least 1/3 of their sentence.
