Europe Days will be celebrated throughout May
Europe Days in Chisinau will be celebrated during the whole month of May, beginning on May 7. On this day, a series of manifestations promoting the idea of European integration will be organized. Nearly all the EU embassies in Chisinau, Kiev and Bucharest will use the opportunity to present the cultures, values, languages and traditions of European countries.
A seminar on the agenda of events was organized on Friday at the Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Natalia Gherman, Deputy Foreign Minister, said the collaboration between Moldova and the EU was fruitful and the EU Delegation in Moldova contributed to many important achievements for Moldovan citizens.
“I’m proud that this time we won’t celebrate Europe Day only in Chisinau, but in Balti as well. On May 14, together with the EU Delegation and with European ambassadors, we plan to organize these manifestations across the country”, she added.
CCCEC director Viorel Chetraru remarked that the continuous EU support for Moldova’s efforts of integrating in the European community was received as a precious credit. He mentioned that a new national anticorruption strategy was developed based on works within the Project of assisting national authorities in implementing EU-Moldovan agreements. The diversity of corruption acts made it necessary to enhance measures against this phenomenon, including cooperation with civil society, mass media and international institutions.
Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, head of the EU Delegation in Moldova, attended the event as well. He said that the EU would support Moldova in its European aspirations through reforms to be implemented, especially those of the judiciary and of law enforcement bodies. “Reforms are meant to improve the institutional framework and to prevent corruption. That’s why the celebration of Europe Day began at the CCCEC”, said Dirk Schuebel.
Europe Day is celebrated on May 9.
