European project to support Moldovan and Ukrainian migrants

Moldova and Ukraine will be supported to strengthen their abilities to regulate labor migration within the European Union-funded Better Management of Qualifications and Labor Migration Project that is implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO), Info-Prim Neo reports. “The new program is designed to build up the capacities of the national authorities of Moldova and Ukraine to regulate labor migration and promote a sustainable return, with emphasis on human resources strengthening and anticipation of losses of qualifications,” ILO national coordinator in Moldova Ana Lipciu said during the launch. The new project is intended for migrant workers and returned migrants. The authors of the project say the migrants who do not have the necessary documents and are in a worse situation on the labor market of the host country are often forced to do poorly-paid jobs and work of a low qualification. Therefore, the aimed at raising awareness of the risks of illegal migration “As to qualified labor force, the project aims to analyze the migration of teachers and its impact on the education system and competitiveness of the labor force in Moldova and Ukraine,” said Ana Lipciu. According to ILO subregional coordinator of the project Anita Anna Farkas, the project will support the reintegration of returned migrants by providing technical consultancy services for formulating and implementing measures and stimuli that would encourage the sustainable rerun and efficient use of the human, financial and social resources acquired abroad. The project will last for two years and a half and will be implemented by the ILO in cooperation with partners from Moldova and Ukraine, the International Organization for Migration, and the World Bank.
