The 200 employees of the Family Healthcare Center Galaxia received the European Quality award. On Tuesday, June 29, the Galaxia staff was in the limelight as the whole Moldovan medical elite congratulated them. This is the first private clinic in Moldova highly appreciated by European institutions. The Galaxia workers think they received the award for their excellent organization, quality services, professionalism, efficient implementation of medical innovations, partnership with public medical structures and the will to rise to European standards in their job. Valeriu Maciuca, manager of the clinic, stated during the event the European Quality award was offered for the continuous effort to improve the quality of rendered services. After a rigorous monitoring, the Awarding Committee of the European Business Assembly decided Galaxia truly deserved the prize. Valeriu Maciuca thinks the event is very important for his institutions and that the award will make all the employees proud. He described it as an appreciation of what was done and an encouragement to carry on, “to permanently strive to achieve high quality in accordance with the European standard”. Academician Gheorghe Ghidirim stated current medicine faced such problems as low wages, insufficient tools and technologies, and, as a result, the lack of compassion for patients. He thinks Galaxia staff found the proper way to deal with these issues. “Here, good doctors and nurse work with pleasure, because the Center has all the necessary equipment. Thus, there is compassion and, consequently, the prestige and authority of this institution grows”, Ghidirim said. Olga Cernovschi, pro-rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Nicolae Testemiteanu, stated the award was based on the excellent quality of services, great work and professionalism of the personnel. She thinks this could be a start of quality management in Moldova and that other institutions, public or private, should follow the example settled by Galaxia. Other speakers praised the important experience of Galaxia staff. The Center was founded in 1998. Over the years, the amount of rendered services diversified so that it now covers the whole range of medical consultations and specialties. The Center contains a policlinic, a drugstore, a laboratory, dentistry, 2 surgery sections with 30 beds, an intensive care ward with 4 beds, 3 surgery blocks, a therapy department with 14 beds, and another room with 16 beds. The Staff includes 130 medics, 6 of which are habilitated doctors and 27 doctors of medical sciences, superior and fisrt category doctors and 48 nurses. Now, Galaxia can use the symbols and attributes of the European Quality Award in documents and publicity.
