The former Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoacă claims original documents have been replaced with false ones in the criminal case where he is being accused of facilitating a failed parking meter venture in exchange for undue benefits.
In a press conference today, Chirtoacă presented his own account in chronological order, suggesting the prosecution is hiding essential parts of the evidence.
Dorin Chirtoacă also complains that he is not allowed to cross question the municipal officials who actually signed those documents, which the former mayor thinks demonstrates “the judge’s complicity to all this disgrace”. “Why am I not permitted to ask questions based on these documents of the people who did what they did and who blame everything on me now? I think this explains everything”, declared Dorin Chirtoacă.
The former mayor went on to claim that the prosecutors cannot demonstrate anything based on hard evidence and all they got is witnesses’ words against his. The fact that the case has been delayed over and over again by the prosecutors without any result, says Chirtoacă, speaks volumes.
Dorin Chirtoacă has been prosecuted in the parking meter case since May 2017. The former mayor, who is also the president of the Liberal Party, has denied any charges as politically motivated.
