The former head of Criuleni district Iurie Andriuta, together with the manager of the municipal enterprise “Edilitate Criuleni”, will be tried for organizing and taking part in abuse of power that resulted in considerable damage to the public interests. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and remitted the case to court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, during July 2015 and April 2017 the offender, who held the post of head of Criuleni district, instructed all the managers of the district education institutions to make sure that the subsequent construction and repair works were executed through the agency of “Edilitate Criuleni” that was founded by the district council.
The district head became involved in the allocation of funds to the institutions managed by the district council for publishing announcements about the organization of works procurement procedures. The tender contest was won by the company “Crioleal-Com” that was run by the son of the president of the board of “Edilitate Criuleni” and by SRL ”Rioli” that was managed and controlled by the head of the municipal enterprise.
By prior arrangement, the culprits performed construction and repair works at the facilities managed by the Criuleni district council through the agency of “Edilitate Criuleni”, by inflating the volume and cost of works. Specialists of the State Construction Inspectorate assessed the damage caused to the public interests at 252,000 lei.
The ex-district head concluded a blame acceptance agreement with the prosecutor and faces a fine of 67,500 to 117,500 lei or two to six years in jail, in both of the cases with ban on holding particular posts of performing particular activities for a period of five to ten years.
