Executive approves conception of National Positioning System

The Government approved the technical conception of the National Positioning System of Moldova – MOLDPOS. It is a network of permanent high-precision reference stations based on GPS (Global Poisoning System), Info-Prim Neo reports. “The stations will provide the geodesic and cartographic data needed to ensure the national security, defense and economic development. They will also transmit online exact data and data corrections to the users engaged in constructions, agriculture, prevention of emergencies and other areas, like information about the state of the levees or other protection constructions,” said Anatolie Ghilas, director general of the Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre – the public authority that will administer the MOLDPOS control center. The project is financed by the Government of Norway. MOLDPOS will be created in stages. After the stations are installed and tested, MOLDPOS will be integrated into the European Position Determination System (EUPOS). Thus, a step will be taken towards promoting the advanced GPS-based technology. Moldova became a member of the European Position Determination System in 2008.
