Exhibition in black and white

Over one hundred black-and-white pictures made by 46 authors have been displayed in the small hall of the exhibitions center “Constantin Brancusi” in Chisinau. The used techniques are varied, from classical to modern. The exhibitors are members of the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova, pupils of renowned plastic artists and students of Chisinau art education institutions. The exhibit is part of the first Biennale Black-and-White Pictures Exhibition, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I am glad that the emerging talents presented works almost of the same quality as those of established masters. This shows that the graphic arts have continuity and that the biennale, which is at its first edition, will become a tradition,” said Valeriu Herta, the head of the graphics section of the Union of Plastic Artists. Ghenadie Jalba, the president of the Union of Plastic Artists, considers that the exhibition is a real surprise because there have been no such exhibits for a long time. “I like graphics when the colors are excluded and there is only representation. Using their skills, the authors often make these two colors – black and white – even more expressive,” Ghenadie Jalba said. According to him, it is more difficult to watch an exhibition of black-and-white drawings, but it can help teach the viewers from different angles.” Tudor Fabian, graphic artist of the Union of Plastic Artists, said that he has participated in graphics exhibitions abroad for many years, but insisted with his colleagues that the works of the modern plastic artists should be also appreciated at home. “During 1992-2000, the graphic arts in Moldova had been stagnant as there appeared new technologies like Xerox, computer, multiplication methods etc. After 2000, the situation changed. The technologies became more accessible, while the graphic arts became to modernize,” he said. Working as graphic teacher at the plastic arts high school “Alexandru Plamadeala”, Tudor Fabian noticed that the young persons are interested in this kind of arts. “The modern graphic arts contain photographic, video and advertising graphic arts and the young people want to learn and use this kind of arts,” he said. The exhibition will be open from May 5 through May 17. At the end of this year, the Union of Plastic Artists plans to hold the Biennale Painting Exhibition.
