An exhibition centering on the Polish scouting was mounted by the Polish Institute in Bucharest at the National Museum of History in Chisinau. The exhibit forms part of the series of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the regaining of Poland’s independence. The 30 photo-documentary panels assembled by the Museum of Scouting ZHP of Warsaw will be on display at the National Museum of History in Chisinau during February 1-18, IPN reports.
Attending the inaugural event, Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the regaining of independence is very important for the Poles, while the exhibition is about patriotism and friendship and about solidarity.
“We do not have closed patriotism as it is open to others. To have a state, it is not enough to place a country indicator. There should be a people and elements that unite this people. In the case of Poland, there were many factors, including the Polish scouting that contributes to this love for the motherland,” stated the diplomat.
Agnieszka Skieterska, director of the Polish Institute in Bucharest, said that the visitors of the exhibit can find out about the joining by Polish scouts of the legion, fighting in the “Gray Ranks” or the influence of scouting education on a whole generation of Polish young people. Scouting is based on such values as patriotism, comradeship, service for the others’ benefit, faith, work, freedom and peace.
Vasile Godoroja, chairman of the National Scouts Association of Moldova, said that patriotism was the value that prevailed at first. Now the World Organization of the Scout Movement aims to cultivate patriotism by other values, such as friendship, family and civic activism. The Polish scouts are the best and their mates from other states have what to learn from them.
In connection with the 100th anniversary of the regaining of Poland’s independence, the Polish Institute in Bucharest is staging a series of events in Chisinau. These will end with an exhibition dedicated to Polish Marshal Józef Piłsudski. This will be mounted at the National Museum of History of Moldova in November.
Scouting is a world movement that brings together over 38 million young people from 127 countries and territories.
