Families of minibus-train accident victims to receive aid
The families of those four people who were killed in an accident involving a minibus being struck by a train on Sunday will each receive 10,000 lei in aid, Prime Minister Vlad Filat announced.
Filat said he regretted that those responsible for road safety had done little to prevent such accidents.
“Exactly one year and three days ago, there was this terrible accident that resulted in casualties and which also occurred on train tracks. Safety measures must be implemented regardless of what excuses some persons in positions of authority might find after accidents. The Ministry of Transport and Roads is the least expected agency to complain about a lack of funds; I'd rather not tell you figures right now, but I'll do that at the Cabinet's meeting. Rather there is a lack of responsibility”, said Filat, referring to Minister Anatol Salaru's statement that boom barriers at railway crossings haven't installed because of a lack of money.
Vlad Filat promised “concrete measures, not just indications” would follow after this deadly accident.
On Sunday morning, four people were killed and six others were injured after the minibus they were on was struck by a freight near Merenii Noi in Anenii Noi district. A year ago, a similar accident occurred in another Anenii Noi village, when a minibus carrying 17 passengers collided with an engine. Eight people were killed in that accident.
