The wife and brothers of Alexei Veretco, aka Krasavchik, who was killed in an exchange of fire in the Orhei Forest in April, have complained to the European Court of Human Rights. They complained in particular that the Prosecutor General’s Office destroyed all the evidence in this case, which involves police officers, Info-Prim Neo reports. Roman Zadoinov, the lawyer that represents widow Tatiana Veretco in court, told the press that of 8 initial suspects only one is left and he claims to be innocent and to have been on the scene accidentally. “They are all free. Witnesses speak about 15-16 people. 8 of them were suspects in the killing of Alexei Veretco. Now, there is only one suspect. He says he ended up there by chance, accidentally grabbed his gun and shot, not knowing who he shot. Everything is accidental”, said the lawyer. He says that a judge demanded the investigation of several suspects to be ceased. Alexei Veretco’s family complained to the ECHR because they don’t believe that the investigation was carried out in all seriousness and the case was examined competently. The lawyer cited the recent ECHR ruling in the case “Ghimp and others against Moldova”, in which the State was fined for not investigating properly the murder of a man and for not punishing the three guilty persons. Alexei Veretco’s brothers and wife claim they had been threatened by unknown people and proposed money for not insisting on the investigation of the killing and for not going to the ECHR. Maria Vieru, head of the Prosecutor General’s Office press service, told Info-Prim Neo that the case was still under investigation and the PGO abstained from commenting on the accusations put forward by the victim’s family. Alexei Veretco was shot in an exchange of fire after an argument with two men, one of whom was the deputy of the Orhei district commissar at the time. According to some information, Alexei Veretco, aka Krasavchik, was a criminal boss and several sportsmen, members of criminal groups, were involved in his killing.
