Fewer cases of disability reported

The number of persons who were granted disability degrees last year decreased by 4% compared with a year before. Even so, the number of persons with disabilities in Moldova increases every year. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the National Medical Vitality Examination Council Ludmila Sochirca said that the decline in the number of new cases of disability is due to the fact that the people became more responsible and go often to the doctor. Most of the disabled persons are aged between 40 and 49. They represent 23.9% of the total number of persons with disabilities. The diseases of the circulatory apparatus, malignant tumors and diseases of the nervous system prevail in the structure of primary disabilities. However, the number of new cases of all the distresses decreased by about 2%. Under the amendments to the legislation, from January 1 the first, second and third disability degrees were replaced by severe, accentuated and average disability levels. A new element is the fact that the disability will be confirmed by the person’s work capacity. This does not apply to pensioners and children. Currently, in Moldova there are over 179,000 persons with disabilities, over 14,000 of whom are children. The average disability pension is 549.86 lei.
