Fewer cases of infections recorded last year
The number of cases of infectious diseases in Moldova in 2012 was lower than a year before. National Public Health Center vice director, university lecturer Valeriu Pantea said that the number of such cases fell by 6.4% on 2011, including by 1.6% among children, Info-Prim Neo reports.
He said that such a situation is due to the whole health system, but especially to the disease prevention and prophylaxis service. “There is a positive epidemiological situation for 70.9% of the 103 infectious diseases recorded. Thus, the dynamics in the people’s health improved,” said Valeriu Pantea.
However, the number of diseases of the digestive system last year increased, including of rotaviruses by 35.5% and of acute viral hepatites C by 34%. The number of cases of lung and respiratory diseases rose 1.4 times to about 46,000.
“The number of diseases may decrease significantly if the people know prevention and prophylaxis ways and make effort to fortify themselves. The community and family doctors must more effectively and actively promote a healthy lifestyle and ways of preventing diseases,” said the doctor.
Infections represent 10-12% of all the diseases recorded in Moldova.
