Those who want to examine files on victims of political repression will have to wait for at least two more months. The National Archive will provide access to them no sooner than at the end of March. The files were transferred to the National Archive from the special stores of the Security and Information Service (SIS) and the Ministry of the Interior last yearend. The Archive’s administration promised then the files will be accessible from February.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the Archive’s director Petru Vicol said the process of ordering the files is not yet over. “This is a rather difficult process. We will not finish arranging the files by end-February. We hope to complete the work by the end of March,” said Petru Vicol.
The process includes examining the state of the files, numbering each page, keeping records, inventorying all the files by indicating the number of order and the title, the name of the person, the year of birth, the settlement from where the person was deported and the number of pages of the file.
The persons who need copies of the files on the deported relatives can lodge an application in written form. Five such applications have been submitted since the start of this year.
Over 10,000 files on persons subjected to political repression in 1920-1951 were transferred to the National Archive from the Security and Information Service and the Ministry of the Interior last year. Another 5,000 files from the SIS are to be transferred by the end of this month.
