“Three female teachers from a village went to work in Rome. Hidden in improvised coffins, they were stopped at the border with Austria...” – this is how the script of a movie starts. This movie will be made only if the Moldovans contribute money. “It is a bet with the society and a challenge for the society,” director Sergiu Prodan said in a news conference held at the Railway Terminal in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The movie is titled “2,438 km or all the roads go to Rome”. “We want to make a film about the society and for the society. We want to convince the Moldovans that they should not go illegally abroad,” Sergiu Prodan said. The movie addresses four themes with social impact, namely illegal migration, trafficking in persons, child abandonment and violence against women.
It is a project implemented in concert with the society. “The state did not have, does not have and will never have money for the movie. We want to make it in concert with the society so that the state deals with a more important problem – adopts a new law on cinematography,” Sergiu Prodan said.
The director made an appeal to Vlad Filat. “Vlad Filat is a citizen of Moldova and he could contribute €100 to the movie,” he said, adding that every politician can donate money as a citizen.
The movie features three persons who think about the way they chose, where they want to get to and what they want most while they head for their destination. It is a movie that poses a lot of questions, said director of photography Veaceslav Cebotari.
The movie will be made at a cost of €500,000. Half of the sum will be covered by three film making companies involved in the project, while the other half will represent contributions. Sergiu Prodan said they intend to find 2,500 persons who will contribute by €100.
The money will be collected by the NGO Social Impact. The organization's head Alexandru Otel said the money will be gathered in a transparent way. The movie would be shown all over Moldova and in the countries where there are many Moldovans.
Shooting is to begin in autumn. The movie would be premiered in April 2011.
