Activist Fiodor Ghelici made public apologies to the LGBT (lesbian, gays, bisexual and transgender) community following a relevant court decision.
In a news conference at IPN on January 14, Fiodor Ghelici said a statement that he made two years ago, by which he expressed publicly his opinion about the sexual minorities existing in Moldova, was perceived as an offense and instigation to hatred and discrimination. That’s why he offers his apologies to the LGBT community, in accordance with the decision of the court of law.
Feodor Ghelici noted he does not consider that apologizing to somebody whom he offended is a problem, but is convinced that Moldova has traditional values that must be respected and promoted. He has nothing against the persons of a nontraditional sexual orientation, but believes that those who form part of the LGBT community should show decency in public and should keep the intimacy for themselves.
He also said that there are other preoccupations than the subject of homosexuality in society. Attention should be directed to the really serious problems faced by many countries such as poverty, conflicts and even wars.
