Fiodor Ghelici: Young man was beaten by local councilor and grandson of mayor

The head of the Public Association “Moldova mea” Fiodor Ghelici said a young man from Baltata village of Criuleni district was beaten by two villagers – a local councilor and the grandson of the local mayor. In a news conference at IPN, the activist said that even if the two caused serious bodily injuries to the young man, they are liable to a fine only. Moreover, the activist considers that the police hush up this case.

Fiodor Ghelici said the incident happened at the beginning of this April, when the victim Vladislav Caciula was returning from a club from Chisinau together with his girlfriend and the two young men. When in a taxi, the two urged the victim to continue the distraction, but Vladislav Caciula and his girlfriend refused. At that moment, one of the two young men asked the taxi driver to stop and they all went out of the car. The two beat the victim and left him lie unconscious on a street in Botanica district of Chisinau.

The activist noted that afterward the young man contacted a friend of his, who helped him get home. In several days, Vladislav Caciula was hospitalized and was later operated. The young man filed a complaint to the police. Initially, the investigator said the two young men who beat Vladislav Caciula face a criminal case and three to seven years in jail, but later changed her mind. One month after the submission of the complaint, the investigator said the two villagers are liable only to a fine.

Fiodor Ghelici considers that this changed her decision because she was influenced by the two young men, one of whom is a councilor on the Baltata local council, while the other one is the grandson of the mayor of the village. The two also have relatives in the police and thus managed to avoid criminal punishment.

Vladislav Caciula told the same news conference that before this case he had good relations with the two young men. These were invited to the police to provide explanations over the incident that happened that evening. After he was operated, he presented a number of medical certificates showing that he was beaten to the investigator. But this repeatedly said that she lost the documents and ultimately announced that the two do not face criminal punishment, without arguing this somehow.
