The Anenii Noi district has a new fire and rescue unit. The station was built with US financial support and with contributions from the central and the local budgets. The unit is equipped with facilities for storing emergency equipment and vehicles, a repair and washing station, training facilities, an electric generator in case of power failure and work offices. The station is staffed with 24 employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations who will intervene in 45 settlements in the district.

The inauguration event was attended by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, who said that the times we are going through are testing us. Natural anomalies and extreme climatic phenomena are teaching us two important things. The first one is that we need to be ready to meet new challenges. And the second lesson, said Natalia Gavrilița, quoted by a cabinet press release, is that in the face of dangers, cooperation between states is essential.

The Fire and Rescue Unit was made possible thanks to the support of the US European Command and the Office of Military Cooperation of the US Embassy in Moldova. The total cost of the project amounts to $500,000. 900,000 lei were provided by the Moldovan government, while another 1 million lei was provided by the Anenii Noi District Council.

"This is yet another piece of proof of the strong and long-lasting partnership between Moldova and the USA", said Laura Hruby, Deputy Head of the US Embassy in Moldova.

The Anenii Noi unit is the twelfth of its kind built in Moldova with US support.

During the inaugural event, a ceremony was held to allocate five new vehicles for the Anenii Noi, Hâncești, Cimișlia, Căușeni and Edineț districts. The vehicles were purchased within the project "Improvement of the operating infrastructure of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication in Moldova and Romania", financed by the European Union.
