Civil society compiled the first alternative report on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Moldova. Besides findings, the report also contains a set of recommendations for the Government. The report will be presented on December 9, IPN reports.
According to the authors, this is a comprehensive report centering on the realities since the ratification of the Convention in 2010. “Such a report was compiled for the first time. It was produced with the participation of persons with disabilities. They are the co-authors. Furthermore, the report provides recommendations on each of the provision of the Convention,” said the executive director of the Center for Legal Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Vitalie Mester.
The goal of the alternative report is to provide information from the first source to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. In the December 9 launch, the representatives of civil society will also present a list of questions intended for the Government. The report was produced by 19 civil society organizations working in the field.
Next August, Moldova will be questioned about the implementation of the Convention. “Then, the Government will be questioned based on this alternative report compiled by civil society. We will organize a group of persons with disabilities who will take part in this event,” stated Vitalie Mester.
