{Minister Hotineanu will be the first to be vaccinated against pandemic influenza}
The first batch of vaccines against pandemic influenza A (H1N1) got to Chisinau on Saturday. The 150,000 vaccines plus syringes for administering them are already at the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine. This is the first installment of the total 500,000 vaccines promised by Romania, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At the handing over ceremony, Prime Minister Vlad Filat thanked the authorities of the neighboring country for the provided support and for the promptitude with which they reacted.
Vlad Filat said the Romanian authorities donated the vaccines under an agreement reached while he was in Bucharest on a visit.
The vaccines will be obligatorily registered at the Medication Agency. Afterward, the Ministry of Health will issue an ordinance to start the vaccination campaign.
Minister Vladimir Hotineanu said he will ask to be the first to be vaccinated against pandemic flu and will try thus to show that the vaccine is inoffensive and is very important for health.
The vaccines are sufficient to immunize about 15% of Moldova’s population, which is practically the vaccination level required by the World Health Organization.
About 59,000 medical employees, 30,000 teachers, 3,600 pregnant women, 300 employees of the Interior Ministry, 500 employees of the airport, 500 customs officers and other groups of people exposed to increased infection risks will be vaccinated from Tuesday, December 15.
Oleg Benes, the head of the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine, said the general morbidity is now getting stable, while the colder weather will prevent the epidemiological situation from becoming worse.
Besides the 500,000 vaccines from Romania, Moldova will also benefit from vaccines from the World Health Organization.
