The first consignment of humanitarian aid offered by Romania arrived in Chisinau on March 10. This includes 203 tonnes of sugar that were transmitted to the Agency for Material Reserves and will be distributed to social institutions for supplementing the annual reserves, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the sugar will be taken to children’s homes, boarding schools, nurseries, old people’s homes and other facilities. The remaining sugar will be used to augment the state reserve of Moldova. The other consignments, of the total of 1,170 tonnes, will reach Moldova over the next two-three weeks.
The hand-over event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister on Social Matters Gheorghe Brega, who said that he now understood that a friend in need is a friend indeed. “There is no other country that helped us so much as Romania did,” he stated.
The Government of Romania will also provide humanitarian assistance in the form of food parcels to socially deprived families in Moldova and crude oil to prevent situations of risk in the energy sector.
