Andrei Pantea was discharged from the post of First Deputy Prosecutor General on March 2 in connection with the expiration of his term and was named, by an order made by the Prosecutor General, as acting Deputy Prosecutor of Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.

Under the Law on the Prosecution Service, the First Deputy and the Deputy Prosecutors General are appointed by the Prosecutor General following an appraisal from the Supreme Council of Prosecutors. No candidate for the post of First Deputy Prosecutor General has been fielded so far and there is stipulated no deadline by which this should happen. 

The First Deputy and the Deputy Prosecutors General are named for a five-year period.
