First Romanian Literature Days held in Chisinau

The first Romanian Literature Days are taking place in Chisinau during May 19-21. The readers will have the possibility to meet with famous Moldovan and Romanian writers, attend readings and take part in different debates and conferences that will center on the trends in literature in both of the countries, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This project that brings together writers from both banks of the Prut is aimed at stopping the reproduction of ignorance and mutual non-recognition,” said writer Vasile Ernu, the coordinator of the project. “We will try to answer several simple questions at this first event: why we don't know much about ourselves? What happened to us, our poetry and literature?.” The Romanian Literature Days in Chisinau will be opened on May 19 at 17.00, at the Libraria din Centru of the publishing house Cartier. The event will continue with a session of readings and debates themed “RO and MD or what do we know about each other?” at the restaurant Passepartout, at 19.00. A conference themed “Eugen Negrici –the Romanian Literature in Communism” will take place at the Balti-based university Alecu Russo on May 20, starting at 11.00. Writers Dan Lungu and Doina Rusti will give readings at the Libraria din Centru in Chisinau starting at 17.00. They will speak about liberation, revolt, nostalgia. The discussions will go on at the restaurant Passepartout and will involve Gabriela Adamesteanu, Constantin Cheianu, Iulian Ciocan and Dan Lungu. On the third day of the cultural event, the conference “Eugen Negrici – the Romanian Literature in Communism” will take place at the State University of Moldova, starting at 11.00. “Urban Readings” will be given on the Classical Writers Alley, starting at 15.00. From 17.00, Gabriela Adamesteanu will read from the book “Lost Morning”. Discussions will follow at the restaurant Passepartout at 19.00. They will focus on the young poetry in Moldova and Romania. A series of books will be presented the same evening. The Romanian Literature Days in Chisinau will end with a concert by the band Trigon at the municipal theater Satiricus I. L. Caragiale. The organizers of the Romanian Literature Days in Chisinau include the Romanian Cultural Institute, the National Book Center, the Chisinau City Hall, the publishing house Cartier, the journal Punkt.
