Five suspects investigated in the “Tomographer” case will be held on remand based on arrest warrants issued by the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on August 1, IPN reports.
The head of the Radiology Section of the Medical Diagnosis Center of Chisinau will be held in the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center for 30 days. His lawyer said he will challenge the court decision. Another two doctors also got by 30 days of arrest.
A medical assistant will stay under arrest for 25 days. The woman didn’t want to answer questions of the press. One more involved person got 20 days of arrest.
The sixth suspect was placed under house arrest, while the seventh person involved is investigated outside remand as this cooperated with the prosecution bodies.
Prosecutor in charge of this case Dorin Compan said the suspects face up to ten years in jail, fine and ban on holding particular posts.
The seven are investigated for abuse of power and passive corruption. These are suspected of applying a criminal scheme to collect money from medically insured patients for having X-ray and computed tomography scans.
As a result of searches carried out one day earlier, there were seized sums of money in different currencies assessed at 7 million lei found at the offices and homes of some of doctors and also in safe deposit boxes at commercial banks in Chisinau. Prosecutors will analyze the collected evidence and will take a decision about the sequestration of the money.
